Each snapshot looks like its own files (and if you ls them they look like they take up a ton of space) but in reality, they are just links. Then it will hard-link the unchanged files. rsnapshot will use the rsync tool (which uses the rsync algorithm) to very (very!) efficiently only upload the changed parts of each files. Now, rsnapshot works fundamentally differently than borg and restic. Of course, you absolutely want to deduplicate as you snapshot since otherwise, you have a new copy of everything every time you back up.
Snapshot is much more helpful since it is everything as it looked. That is not the end of the world but it is also not very helpful to restore what the folders looked like at a specific time.
